The controversy surrounding the teaching of intelligent design alongside the theory of evolution in our schools is simply remarkable to me. I also don’t understand why Christian activists think that if creation can’t be taught exclusively, it must be must be taught in tandem with evolutionary theory. Truth be told, I’ve never had a problem separating the teaching of secular idioms in the public school and leaving the proper teaching of Christian principles and ideals in the home. Don’t get me wrong, I believe Christian teaching has a place in public school and is in line with the beliefs of the Founding Fathers, but also concede to the powers-that-be in its disallowance in the public arena of reading, writing and ‘rithmatic. But why can’t it?
Intelligent design is nothing new; it’s creationism by another name. Yet, Darwinists believe its simply the religious-right attempting to sneak in the back door by citing scientific method in the definition of creation. However, creationism is not “against” modern science! In fact, the Biblical mandate to “subdue” the earth (Genesis 1:28) requires that we understand it, which is what science is all about. Intelligent design or “Creation Science” is simply the practice of science with the assumption and acknowledgment that there is a creator, God, versus the now standard assumption of naturalism (that nature is “all there is”).
No one disputes that microevolution, which is a variation within a specific type of organism, caused by natural selection occurs and may be responsible for the large number of species found within a type (different types of monkeys, for instance). In fact, almost all evolution “evidence” is in this category. However, the term microevolution is misleading because it implies that “a little” evolution is taking place. Actually, there is NO evolution taking place because there isn’t an associated increase in the complexity of the organism (such as the development of a new organ), rather the emphasis of some already present traits over others. A perfect example is the slowly disappearing 3rd molars in human beings.
Large scale change of one type of organism into another, or macroevolution, is beyond the ability of mutation combined with natural selection to produce. In fact, the “geologic column”, which is cited as physical evidence of evolution occurring in the past, is better explained as the result of a devastating global flood which happened about 5,000 years ago (as described in the Bible). Even evolutionists acknowledge that the fossil record in the geologic column is one of “fully-formed abrupt appearance” and then “stasis” (i.e. no change over time).1
The belief that the atoms of a “Big Bang” eventually produced people all by themselves (i.e. without any intelligent guidance, as in God) is contrary to the Second Law of Thermodynamics, which is an expression of the universal law of increasing entropy or the inevitable and steady deterioration of a system or society. What this tells us is the universe is “running down” yet evolution requires that the universe is “building up”. It’s funny really: The thought of “atoms to people” evolution is much more a “religious belief” than a scientific fact. So, why do people have such a problem believing in creation?
There is no reason not to believe that God created our universe, earth, plants, animals, and people just as described in the book of Genesis! So, why are Darwinists so afraid to have intelligent design taught in school alongside evolution? Perhaps it’s because the one thing a lie fears most is the truth.
